What is Business Intelligence and how does it differ from SAP?

I want to learn more about Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing, what are their toolsets and applications. I understand that it is a vast area, I just need to get a general understanding of the tools within BI Space and what they are used for. Any sort of information is appreciated.

1. One way to think of BI is in contrast to databases. Databases hold data and require fairly deep database skills to derive meaningful information from that data. To make that process easier the category of BI tools came along. These BI tools typically use visualization methods to allow the analyst to explore the data with the ability to manipulate very large amounts of data in real time. This allows for a much more interactive approach to analyze the data. Check out the links below for some example of generalized tools in this area.
