How did you cope with your baby kicking when you wanted to sleep?

I'm 28 weeks pregnant and my son is starting to kick pretty hard now. As long as I lie still in the bed most of the time my son will stop kicking but I've always been a wiggle worm when I slept and as soon as I fall a sleep that's when he wakes me up with his hard kicking. I've been dead tired in class from lack of sleep but I guess there isn't a lot I can do about it. Any advice?

  1. girl thats why im awake im 40 weeks and my stomach is going insane and she is hurting me really bad sending horrible pains down my cervix and vagina..lol i wish i can sleep..im bout to try and record my belly, every time i get the camera out she stops moving lol
  2. a pregnancy pillow helped me get comfy, but really there isn't a lot you can do about it, its likely to get worse before it gets better, and then you'll be up doing feeds every 2-3 hours lol..... i was sure it was preparation for the sleepless nights haha.... the only thing i would say is don't have sugary things near bed time as I found this made my baby more active in the night x
  3. I yelled at my hubby the other day for moving the bed. He finally went to sleep on the couch and let me get some rest, only for me to find it wasn't him moving the bed. It was the kicking from the little man who I COULDN'T send to sleep on the couch. Ugh. I don't know what to do really. Other than try and catch naps when he's less active.
  4. Generally, theres not all that much you can do about it. This is to help you prepare for motherhood. You can always try cutting caffeine from after lunch, and of course taking naps whenever you can, when I was pregnant I even slept in my car one day at uni in my lunch break!
  5. This is exactly why I am now awake. My baby @ 23 weeks gestation has been kicking very often and the kicks get stronger and stronger as the baby grows. Been kicking non-stop all day. Great sign for baby's health, but does little to keep mommy rested. My advice: Deal with the discomfort now, because when that baby is born *I should know, I am on baby #3* you'll be getting very little rest from all the changings and feedings and such. Get used to it. Good luck to all the pregnant ladies...myself included.
  6. Awww, you just made me reminisce about my now almost one year olds gentle and sometimes not so gentle movements in utero. Another thing that killed me when I was trying to sleep was when he would curl up in to a ball and cram himself on to one side of me, it was always the side with the artery and he would cut off my blood flow and make me feel dizzy. And the oh so loevely kicking of the ribs... over and over and over lol. There is nothing at all you can really do. I used to rock my body from side to side and it actually did seem to lull him to sleep. Now at 9 months old he will often crawl on top of my belly and I will rock from side to side and he'll fall asleep. And just try to catch as many cat naps as you can. I miss his little nudges and how when I'd poke at him he would answer back with gentle touches of curiosity :)
  7. My son was not very active at all due to a medication I had to take during my pregnancy. I think it made him drowsy, because it did the same to me. So, I didn't have that problem with him. My daughter though was a different story. I worked 60 hours a week on my feet until I was 8 1/2 months with her, and she would sleep the whole time I was at work. When I would get home and try to rest, she would wake up and start doing gymnastics in my belly. I found that if I moved or walked around she would sleep. I think it kind of rocked her to sleep. I would have my husband kind of bounce softly on our bed when I was trying to rest and she wouldn't. And it would usually have the same effect and put her to sleep. It is something worth trying. If not that, maybe if you have some type of hammock or rocker that you can rock in to get some rest, it might help.
  8. I am 33 weeks and when he kicks me when I am trying to sleep I change sides.I always sleep on my side though, idk if you can do that, but it seems like when I move it knocks him off balance and he stops and that gives me enough time to fall asleep.Maybe try sitting up for a minute and laying back down.Try not to have any sugar or caffeine at least 6 hours before you lay down.Good luck hun.
